Spring has Sprung!

My apologies for the silence. I have been (and still am) recuperating from a recent surgery. Going back to work is still abit heavy but I am getting better & stronger everyday.

Spring has sprung and the sun is out in its full glory. We have been blessed with weeks of sunny blue skies so far! And when it’s this nice outside, the whole of Ghent seems to be out and about too. You see all kinds wondering about, filling up the cafĂ©’s, parks, river banks and some look like they came straight out of their winter hibernation. Easter school hols is just a few days away too and that means, we are away on our next vacay! Woohoo! Cant wait! Enjoy spring my dearest readers.

A Day of Mourning

Today, Friday the 16th of March 2012, is a day of national mourning for the loss of lives. It is an overwhelming feeling to see and hear that radio’s, television stations, schools, offices, universities and everyone out and about in shopping centre’s or even at the park stood still to observe the 11am one minute of silence. I can’t bear to hear nor read about this accident anymore, I get too emotional and the tears start trickling down my face. My deepest and most sincere condolences to the parents, families and friends who lost a loved one in that tragic accident. Please know that the whole country and its population are mourning with you.

Utrecht

I have never been to Utrecht and the Rough Guides, has less than 10 pages on it. I think the main must see monument is the Dom Tower and their cathedral. But like many other cities in The Netherlands, it is beautiful lined with romantic canals, unique designer shops and antiques too. Along the canals you are spoiled for choices with many restaurants offering international cuisine from Indian, Thai to Mediterranean.

This trip is an all girls weekend getaway, the last girlie getaway I went on was more than 10 years ago! And of course, it was always with single friends. This time around, we are all happily married with children and time away from the significant other and little ones is very welcoming. Although I was knackered from the lack of sleep, I was a happy camper! Those girlie chats that lasted long into the night, the delicious meals shared over lunch and dinner and of course, shopping, oh how I miss shopping with the ladies. I will definitely return to Utrecht again, but with B and N, to visit some of their lovely museums that I missed on this trip.
